Madeline Ford

Here's a painting of Madeline Ford, the double agent from Iron. The figure and background of the painting are a nod to my favorite painter, Winslow Homer.

Wizard World Philadelphia

Here are a couple of commissions I did at Wizard World Philadelphia over the weekend. It was great to get out there and sell my mini book and do some painting. If you're interested in getting a commission simply email Mail (at) SMVidaurri (dot) com!

Below is a bunch of drawings I did on the train ride home. They're for a project I've been developing for a bit now.

First Lines : Pale Fire

By the false azure in the windowpane;
I was the smudge of ashen fluff--and I

A Few More Sketches

Here is another page of studies and sketches for IRON. It started as a final drawing but then devolved into a sketching page when I decided I didn't like it anymore.

The Pamphleteer No. 3

The Pamphleteer No. 3

These are very fun to work on. I'm currently outlining my next project in addition to finishing a small companion book for IRON that will be full of brand new full color paintings. I'm hoping to have it all done by the end of the month. These Pamphleteer pieces are a nice little distraction in the mean time.

IRON Sketch

Here's a sketch for a painting I'm working on. It's depicts a character who appears in IRON, and it's a bit of a nod to one of my favorite painters, Winslow Homer.

Watercolor & Cover

Here's a recent watercolor painting. I decided to use the same drawing that I used for the IRON cover, and because the cover is only black line work with gold foil, I thought it would be fun to explore how it would look as a watercolor painting.

Here's a proof for the cover of IRON. It's pretty close to how it's going to look, just some small typography changes. Archaia has really impressed me with their dedication to making the book's appearance as beautiful as can be. I am quite excited to see it.

Here's my first sketch for the cover. You can see I was a bit overzealous with the gold foil at first, using it to fill in the sky, which was pointed out to me as being unwise (which it is). Your eye is drawn to James in the actual cover, and in this one your eye goes to the sky. I figured it out in the next round of sketches.

Seal and Mountains

Here's a military seal I made for a letter in IRON. Iron gets uploaded to the printers this week. It feels a little odd to be finished with it. If I had my way I would just tinker and re-paint it forever, but I guess it is best to finish it and move on to another project. I look forward to starting my next one later this week, but first, a few days of nothing to relax my nerves after a very stressful two months. Here's a painting I did for IRON. It's a re paint of a panel I disliked before.

Here are some studies I worked on the past few days as a warm up. I've been busy with the deadline for IRON and I did these in an effort to not go insane.
